Brendan Murphy (1999)
Born and raised in Smithfield, RI, Brendan Murphy rewrote the men’s basketball record books during his time at CCRI. He ranks second in program history with 1,398 points and owns the college’s record for most three pointers in a season (110) and in his career (212). The sharpshooter helped lead the Knights to the NJCAA Division III National Championship game in 1991. A year later After scoring 40 points in the national tournament, he earned NJCAA D-III Player of the Year honors in addition to being named a First Team All-American, as well as being named two-time first-team All-New England, and to an All-Colonial States Athletic Conference selection. He is also 2nd all-time for free throws in a single game, shooting 18 of them. He played for the NAIA national champion Hawaii-Pacific in 1993 and was named NAIA national Scholar-Athlete of the Year in ‘93-’94. Murphy was also a two-time First Team All-New England and All-Colonial States Athletic Conference Selection. He eventually transferred to Hawaii Pacific University, where he helped lead the Sharks to the 1992-93 NAIA national championship, and is now a world-renowned contemporary artist.
